With the Fat Kid challenge ramping up this summer in Kansas City, I felt it was prudent to offer you all a preview of the upcominc finale, Hickock's MONSTER Burger. For those of you who are unaware, Hickocks is a fantastic restaurant on the corner of Walnut and 6th street just before the entrance to river market. The food and drink specials are fantastic, check them out sometime, however the ultimate special is hidden from the menu...The Monster Burger. One pound of beef, mushrooms, fried onions, tomato, pickle, guacamole, two types of cheese, pepper-jack cheese sauce, an egg, eggplant, grilled pepper, lettuce and of course bacon stacked on a bun with an extra large helping of fries on the side. The challenge: eat this behemoth in 30 minutes and its free.
My esteemed collegue Bo Flores took on the challenge a few months ago and completed it like a champ, finishing in less than 8 minutes! I am not as talented, but still somehow managed to shove it all down my gullet and into my 170lb frame in 28 minutes. A few other brave souls attempted to finish the monster with me, and only one of the four finished. This challenge is certainly not for the faint of heart (I seriously thought I was going to have a heart attack on the walk home) but if you think you have the balls, and the intestines to put your name on the wall of fame, then make your way to Hickocks and ask Liddy to whip you up a Monster Burger.
