Upon first glance Sumo is very attractive, making the most of the standard Japanese restaurant wood motif, especially in its wood-and-mirror bar area, where people seem happy to wait and sample sake in ranges of fruitiness and dryness, or sip on a Sapporo. Beyond that, like so many new restaurants, it offers its own cocktail list most notably the "Panty Dropper".
The House Signature Rolls are intricate arrangements of vividly fresh fish and artful layering’s of textures. You'll also find hot dishes that even unsustainable sushi bars can't manage. Tempura is impressively crisp and greaseless. Seared scallops with ponzu brown butter may not astonish, but they're silky and sweet. After this there is the Naked Hibachi tables; entertaining and delicious, Nuf said...
Modern Japanese Fusion cooking is the real description of this establishment. With a menu that boasts over 140 different dishes we think Sumo is one of the better Japanese eateries in KC!
